Paul McCobb was a pivotal figure in mid-century modern design. His 1950s “Planner Group” line secured his name as one of the most iconic furniture designers of the era. McCobb wanted to create a line of furniture that looked American rather than copying European styles. He emphasized clean lines, simplicity, and a somewhat industrial design. One thing that set the Planner Group apart was the modular designs that allowed for versatile styling. The simple, streamlined pieces were characterized by their functionality and purpose and strived to make modernism accessible to the growing middle class.

This 1950s Paul McCobb model 1560 Planner Group desk is crafted from gorgeous maple wood. The tabletop is protected with a glass top that matches the size and sits flush with the piece. Beneath its rectangular tabletop is an asymmetrical design with long, slender tapered legs on one side, and drawers on the other. The two drawers each have one small conical brass pull handle, and the lower drawer is larger than the upper one. The drawers have a blue and white paisley liner. Below the drawers are two smaller tapered legs that support the side. This charming piece is a gorgeous mid-century modern work full of charm and timeless style.
