KATE MARTIN, ISA AM
Kate Martin is current President of the Perfect Thing, Inc, working in all facets of the business. After swearing never to go into an estate career, she is thrilled about the change of heart. Beginning as an associate at the shop, Kate has earned an accreditation in Appraisal Services, specializing in antiques and decorative arts. She is also educated in appraisal theory, methodology, USPAP (Uniform Standard Professional Appraisal Practice) through the International Society of Appraisers. She spear points the shop and staff, conducts personal property appraisals and assists Judith with the estate sales division.
With the philosophy that things simply aren’t made the way they used to be, Kate loves educating potential clients to the realization that just because it has age, doesn’t mean its "bad". She delights in seeing beautifully made items find their second life. Kate asserts, “people of my generation, and beyond, don’t understand how painstakingly things were produced before the technological age. We used to actually make things with our hands and the progression of materials they used can tell the story of our existence!”
In 2011, she earned her accreditation with the International Society of Appraisers, specializing in Generalist Studies, requalifying every two years. She is working towards her CAPP certification. She sat on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Wheaton Association from 2016 until her retirement in 2022.
