J Drury Surrealist City on Canvas

Jean Drury (1942-2023) was a mixed media artist from DuPage County. She practiced a variety of styles from impressionist to surrealist, with an admiration for marine life in particular. Jean created a diverse set of art with varying styles and subjects over her career and was an active member of the DuPage Art League.

This painting depicts the Chicago riverwalk from a surrealist standpoint. Bright, contrasting colors move across the piece in lines, sometimes depicting faces. You also can make out a stylized version of the city skyline, one of the most notable examples being The Willis Tower. Trees reminiscent of the lakefront park populate the foreground.
