The foreground of the piece shows many different soldiers and their horses. The background has many more groups of soldiers, an river, and a few clusters of trees. The scene is embellished with a border that is similarly intricately detailed. The border has the appearance of a gilded ornately carved frame that is ornamented with flags, cherubs, angels, and more. The scarf is framed in a simple gold frame.
