Erte "Bird in a Gilded Cage" Serigraph 36/60 (0DR003)

Beautiful, signed serigraph titled "Bird in a Gilded Cage" by artist Erté. This work is based on Erté's art for Richard Le Galliene's novel, “There Was a Ship", serialized in Harper's Bazaar in 1929. The image of a woman in an ornate dress grabbing pearls from a suitor mirrors the shape and image of a bird held in a small cage hanging above her, creating commentary on the beauty of each and their entrapment. Gilded accents contrast the deep, jewel-toned reds and purples of the art. Signed Erté in pencil in the lower right, marked AP 36/60 in the lower left. The work is held in a wooden frame with cream matting and silver and gold paint. The frame has minor damage but the serigraph is in amazing condition.
