Antique oak leaf fireplace screen with needlepoint insert. This screen, known as a cheval fire screen was used to cover a fireplace when not in use during the warmer months. The ornate details and artistry were used to add extra decorative flare to a space that would otherwise be wasted when too warm for a lit fireplace. This screen in particular is held with a gorgeous rich medium-toned wooden frame with intricate carved details. The carved details include oak leaves, branches, and berries that form a halo around the screen. The inner frame has log-like details. The frame is supported by two opposing legs with scrolled carved details. The screen itself is a variety of muted tones including beige, green, and pink. The needlepoint details depict a handful of ladies in a garden. The woman in the center is dancing and the others sit admiring her. The back of the screen is a plain white. This beautiful intricate piece is sure to elevate a home with antique charm.
