Antique Japanese Kaidan Step Tansu, AS IS (0MZ001)

Antique Japanese kaidan step tansu. This gorgeous Meiji Period (1862-1912) piece is constructed from dark-toned sugi wood, also known as Japanese cedar. A tansu is a traditional Japanese mobile storage unit built in the shape of a staircase. They are commonly used to access a loft with the added perk of lots of storage. This particular tansu comes in three pieces that stack together. It has seven drawers of varying sizes and one large storage compartment in the middle section. The drawers have iron handles for easy opening and the compartment has a slatted door with a small fastener. A beautiful antique piece with a timelessly functional and charming design.
