Antique fireplace screen with needlepoint insert. This stunning fireplace screen features a dark toned wooden frame, and intricate needlepoint insert. The frame sits on two opposing legs with scrolled feet. The border of the frame is carved with floral details and swirling shapes. The insert of this piece depicts a woman sitting with a lamb on a serene night. The scene is surrounded with gorgeous floral designs. The needlepoint is done in neutral tones with pops of blue green hues. The piece has a pleated, salmon colored back. This screen, known as a cheval horse screen was used to cover a fireplace when not in use during the warmer months. The ornate details and artistry were used to add extra decorative flare to a space that would otherwise be wasted when too warm for a lit fireplace.
