Mathurin is the son of famed artist Jean-Baptiste-Louis Joseph Moreau, and sibling to Hippolyte and Auguste Moreau, well known artist in their own right. Mathurin Moreau has works displayed in public spaces all over the world. His work was first exhibited in the 1848 Salon. He received a medal of honor from the Salon in 1897. His work has also won medals at various World's Fairs . In 1855, Queen Victoria received his Four Season statues as a gift. They are still displayed in the garden of Osborne House. Mathurin worked for the Val d'Osne Foundry and Christofle, until becoming the Mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris in 1878 until his death.
