Edition 221/2500. Illustrated and signed by Salvador Dali. Published by Maecenas Press-Random House, New York.

In 1969, surrealist artist Salvador Dalí illustrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the beloved 1865 children’s tale by Lewis Carroll. Dalí created a striking realm of color and dreamlike imagery that perfectly aligns with Carroll’s world of fantastic characters and enigmatic situations. Dalí embraces the irrationality of the story and includes recurrent motifs from his work, including a melting clock, butterflies, and a girl skipping rope.

There was some water damage on the clamshell case and the brown paper holding the pages only as seen in pictures. There is no water damage on the actual pages.

2500 portfolios, numbered 1 to 2500, were printed on Mandeure paper. Each portfolio is signed on the frontispiece by the artist. Each portfolio contains 12 illustrations with an original remarque on each of these illustrations. One original colored etching signed in the plate is opposite the frontispiece.

For this limited edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland the etching and remarques were printed by Ateliers Rigal. The twelve illustrations were printed by M. Nourisson. The typography was set at the press of Ateliers Rigal. Portfolios by Cartonnages Adine.
Printed in France in 1969.
