Lithograph on cotton paper by Marc Chagall. Titled "After Winter" this piece was printed by Derriere Le Mirror in 1972. One part of it is painted in the pale, colourless shades of winter. But the centre of the work is the happy and colourful head of the small horned donkey. It is accompanied by further symbols of a fish and bird. As the title suggests, this trio announces the coming of spring, when humans can also finally revive.
Hailed as the 'Godfather of Surrealism' and was once the last surviving Modernists, Chagall is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest artists of the early 20th Century.
